For my students

This was one of my Kindergarten students last March, 2007. I try to get my students into the computer lab twice a week. There are many websites that I like for my students. Starfall is one of my favorite sites. The Starfall learn-to-read website is free to the public and is geared toward primary age students. www.starfall.com
Stickybear software is a product that a colleague introduced me to about five years ago. It has a bilingual early learning English/Spanish software that I like to have in the mainstream classrooms. I also use it in the computer lab. Stickybear has software for language arts, science, math and different levels for middle school and high school. http://www.stickybear.com/alltitles.html#bilingual
I have not had any experience with podcasts. I'm excited to learn more about it in the future and its offerings for my students.

Nice picture! I also noticed a toy next to the computer: Are you using puppets? When I taught elementary level students, puppets were my cartoons.
I have not used any podcasts with my students either, but after this course I definitely will.
P.S. Your activity with digital images is very thoughtful and almost universal.

Those are Beanie Babies. This guy was researching tigers and parrots. The students love to hug the BB too.

Great idea with BBs! How about something like Sesame Street and the characters that can be hugged?

Love that picture. What a friendly computer station. Bi-lingual software makes so much sense. Especially if you have students who speak several different languages, how helpful if you have the software in all those languages.

Thanks for listing those websites. I have not heard of them before. I am always looking for anything that is bilingual.
I love the idea of giving them an artifact of thing they are researching!

Very nice - a picture is worth 100 words, isn't it? Can you give us a quick snapshot of how you might guide your students through either site? How many students and how much time typically? Do you have a tech aide(wishful thinking, I'm sure)?

I've recommended the Star Fall site to several of my kindergarten students to use over the summer. I had never heard of Sticky Bear before. Bilingual with Spanish is a great feature. My only experience with podcasts are downloading a few Spanish ones to my IPOD.I think that they might hold enormous potential in the future though. I do wonder why they had to put the "pod" in podcasts though. I really thought until last week that you could only hear it on an IPOD. Yes, I am learning a lot too.
