Doreen M. Nelson - ESL Teacher

Hi, my name is Doreen Nelson and I'm the ESL teacher at the Buffalo Lake-Hector School District in Minnesota. I received my MA in ESL from Hamline University in St. Paul, MN and have worked with K-12 ELL and their families for six years and I enjoy my work immensely! I have been married for 22 years. We have five sons. Two sons are in college, and next fall the other three boys will be in 11th, 6th, and 4th grade. I love to read, travel and motorcycle. I took this class because I want to be aware of all the current educational technology resources available to assist me in teaching my students.

Hi Doreen,

Wow 5 sons and 2 in college. Congratulations. Quite an accomplishment. I have 1 son and he just graduated from college. I feel like I can finally put my feet up.

I just had dinner with him tonight. Amazing how they grow.

I am also impressed with your sons! I am blessed with the two of mine, who have been out of the nest for quite some time: the older one is teaching in LA, and the younger one is in grad school in Boston.
You must be so proud of your family!

Congratulations on finishing your MA in ESL. I am in the process of doing that right now. I will begin my capstone this summer in Methodology. What was your capstone on?

Hi Doreen:
Thanks for your intro and welcome to the class. It does sound as though you have a busy life. Guess what? My 92-year old grandmother lives by herself in Buffalo Lake in the tiny yellow house she's been in for over 60 years. I have wonderful memories of BL and don't get out there often enough to see her. Glad you're on board. Karin

Hi Doreen,
Where do you you spend your vacations? Do you take big family trips?
